When I was at primary school, the class sat two to a computer that came complete with one of the original versions of windows and a modem that made the same sort of noise I imagine aliens converse in. These days, primary school classes have state of the art computer rooms, but it isn’t just about being computer literate now. First Use: Weistek 3D Printer
Before this week I had two impressions of 3D printers. You have the huge, expensive machines that take days to print and cost more than I'd earn in a year. Then you have the other printers that, whilst affordable, print fuzzy and poor quality items. When I was tasked with using a cheap 3D printer I assumed it would be the latter, and I'd be lucky to make out feet from faces. Robotics programming may seem ‘futuristic’, but it does introduce students to some educational concepts at an early age. Students learn basic electrical circuitry, mathematics and mechanics, but do so in a hands-on, problem-based way, which means that they must integrate and apply what they have learnt.
