Sensing changes in IR light, this sensor detects movement in a small room or hallway and connects to an analog input.
Let this sensor be your eyes in a room or on the outside of a building. Like a tiny thermal camera, it monitors the infrared radiation given off by warm objects within its viewing angle. For this reason, it is excellent for detecting the movement of people or animals.
When there is little or no movement in these heat signatures, the sensor output voltage will remain close to 2.5V. When it senses movement, the sensor voltage will increase or decrease. Slow, large movements will produce a greater response than fast, small movements.
When reading this sensor, we recommend setting a threshold above and below the 2.5V mark in order to reduce the occurance of false positives (e.g. only trigger at less than 2V or greater than 3V). You can decide on these threshold values for your environment by measuring the typical sensor output range when there is no movement present.
